Creating Space for Parents and Possibility for Children at the Muslim Group Conference

At conferences, parents are often asked to make an impossible choice: participate fully or ensure their child is supported. For families with autistic children, that choice can feel even heavier.

At this year’s Muslim Group Conference in Lombard, Illinois, KD Care was proud to help remove that barrier.

In partnership with the conference organizers, KD Care offered an autism-friendly childcare and support program designed to give parents peace of mind — and give children a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment led by skilled professionals.

A Thoughtful Solution for Real Families

The goal was simple but powerful: allow parents to fully enjoy the conference, connect with others, and take a breath, knowing their children were in capable hands.

For many families of autistic children, attending events can feel overwhelming. Unfamiliar environments, loud sounds, crowded spaces, and unpredictable schedules can create stress for both parents and children. KD Care’s program was intentionally designed to address those concerns head-on.

Children were cared for by trained staff who understand autism, sensory needs, and individualized support. The environment prioritized calm, structure, and safety — while still offering opportunities for play, engagement, and positive social interaction.

Parents were able to attend sessions, network, and participate without constantly worrying about whether their child was okay. That sense of relief is not something to take lightly.

Inclusion That Goes Beyond Words

True inclusion isn’t just about saying “everyone is welcome.” It’s about creating systems and supports that make participation possible.

By offering an autism-friendly program onsite, the Muslim Group Conference modeled what inclusive events can look like when accessibility is treated as essential — not optional. Families who may have otherwise stayed home were able to attend with confidence.

For KD Care, this aligns directly with our mission. We believe children thrive best when their support systems work together — therapists, caregivers, communities, and organizations — all moving in the same direction.

Skilled Care, Real Understanding

What made this program successful wasn’t just supervision. It was expertise.

KD Care’s team brought their ABA experience, clinical understanding, and compassion into the space. Staff were attentive to individual needs, communication styles, and sensory preferences. Children were met where they were, not forced into a one-size-fits-all approach.

That level of care matters. It’s the difference between “watching” children and truly supporting them.

A Model for Future Events

This program is a reminder that conferences, religious gatherings, and community events can be more accessible — and that doing so benefits everyone.

When parents feel supported, they are more present.
When children feel safe, they are more regulated.
When communities prioritize inclusion, everyone grows stronger together.

KD Care is honored to have partnered on this initiative and hopes to see more events adopt similar programs in the future. Autism-friendly spaces should not be rare. They should be part of how we show care for one another.

We’re grateful to the Muslim Group Conference for recognizing the needs of families and for taking meaningful steps to meet them. This is what community-centered care looks like in action. We’re looking forward to serving families next year!
